RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for John Gall.

2006

An accomplished minor league hitter, Gall has won the Cardinals' Minor League Player of the Year award twice. The biggest obstacle he faces trying to make the big league club is his lack of a true defensive position. He did show promise down the stretch in the major leagues as a pinch hitter, hitting .357 in the role, and even earned a postseason roster spot. He has a good shot at landing the same role full-time for the Cardinals in 2006.

2004

Gall will get a look for at least a share of the first base or left field job, wherever Albert Pujols isn't. He's picked up some power as he's aged, and while he has a low ceiling, he would be a league-average first baseman or a good platoon piece. A doubles hitter who doesn't walk a ton, he could trip into 80-90 RBI in a top-heavy Cardinals lineup. He's not equipped to play left field, though, so if that's his role, tread carefully.
