RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Brian Shackelford.

2007

Shackelford is only a lefty specialist, and not a terribly good one at that. Right-handers hit four homers in just 26 at-bats against him last year.

2006

Shackelford put up solid numbers in a half-season as a lefty specialist. Pitchers like him that pitch so few innings have little tangible upside - they don't throw enough innings to make a positive impact on your ERA or WHIP no matter how well they pitch, and one bad outing can torpedo his worth to you.

2005

The Reds hinted that they could use Shackelford as a lefty specialist as part of their plan to overhaul their bullpen. The 42 walks he allowed in 73 innings at Louisville suggest otherwise.
