2011

Hughes possesses mediocre raw stuff, but was the second-most used setup man behind Robinson Tejeda for the Royals last year. His weak K:BB ratio and low groundball percentage would suggest he wouldn't fare well should he be moved up in the pecking order with an injury to Tejeda or closer Joakim Soria.

2010

Hughes, 27, made his debut in September after several Royals starters were lost for the year due to injury. He appeared in eight games, starting one, while posting a 5.14 ERA in 14 innings. Hughes appears to be nothing more than organizational depth and could fill a long-relief role in 2010.
