RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Wade Townsend.
Townsend, the Rays' top choice in the 2005 draft, missed the entire 2006 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. While those 2007 numbers are not good for a first-round choice, the Rays are just happy Townsend was healthy for most of the season, and his shutdown in August (sore elbow) was very much a precautionary move. Townsend, the Rays' top choice in the 2005 draft, missed the entire 2006 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. However, he was throwing again at the instructional league in October. The Rays will assign him to a Single-A squad this year and finally see what they have in Townsend. He wonít arrive in the majors until 2009 at least.
Townsend, the Devil Rays' top choice in the 2005 draft, will miss the entire 2006 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in October. See you next year, folks.
A strong build and a hard fastball with excellent command are his strengths in combination with a deadly curve that lacks consistency at times. A change up and splitter will need to be refined, but the Rice U. product could be a rotation horse if thatís accomplished.
