2013

2008

The Orioles erred in starting Fiorentino's service-time clock so early when they called him up directly from High-A Frederick in 2005. He has spent the bulk of the last two years in Double-A Bowie, and while he's been competent at the plate, he hasn't really mastered that level. He was acquired by the Reds after the Orioles left him off the 40-man roster. A poor Arizona Fall League campaign (.152/.282/.182 in 33 at-bats) doesn't bode well as he's fallen significantly away from his former prospect status.

2007

A year after jumping straight to the majors from Single-A, the 23-year-old Fiorentino had a decent season, batting .275/.365/.413 with 13 homers and nine steals for Double-A Bowie before an unspectacular September call-up. He's a notch behind Nolan Reimold on the Baltimore outfield prospect depth chart, though the fact that he's left-handed (like current Orioles starters Corey Patterson, Nick Markakis and Jay Gibbons) also weighs against his chances of starting in the majors. Jay Payton signed a two-year deal this offseason to play left field, after which Reimold or a big-money free agent will probably replace him, and with Patterson and Markakis cemented in center and right, Fiorentino's best option to start in a couple years might be in another organization.

2006

Fiorentino was surprisingly called up to the majors directly from Single-A in 2005, and didn't perform too poorly, batting .250 with a homer in 44 at-bats. He still seemed overwhelmed at times, and while he remains one of the top young outfielders in the Baltimore system, Fiorentino has to do better than his .286/.346/.508 with 22 homers in 413 at-bats at Single-A Frederick to retain his prospect status.
