Rest-of-Season Projections
Furmaniak re-signed with the Rays on a one year minor league contract.
ANALYSIS
Furmaniak split time between Double-A and Triple-A last season, hitting .270 with one home run. He isn't a serious contender to make the 25-man roster, rather he will serve as organizational depth in the upper levels of the Rays' organization.

2006 Fantasy Outlook
The 26-year-old Furmaniak projects as a backup, at best, for the Pirates in 2006. Acquired from the Padres in July of 2005, the right-handed hitting shortstop batted .192 in just 26 at-bats after spending most of the season at Triple-A. He showed some power and speed in the minors last year, hitting 16 homers and stealing 14 bases. Furmaniak has a host of competition, however, with mainstay Jack Wilson at short and Freddy Sanchez the No. 1 backup infielder.
