RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2013

There was no outlook written for Nick Evans.

2012

Evans looks to latch onto the Bucs as a utility player. The Pirates are set in the outfield and have options ahead of him at first base, but Evans could squeeze onto the roster as a pinch hitter. In any case, there's not much to like from the lifetime .256/.407/.712 hitter as anything more than a waiver-wire pick.

2011

Evans hit .294 (102-for-347) with 17 homers and 55 RBI in 88 games with Double-A Binghamton. He earned a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo on July 30, where he proceeded to hit .314 with six homers and 25 RBI in 140 at-bats. Evans, who was recovering this offseason from a posterior labral tear of his left non-throwing shoulder sustained Sept. 29, will head to spring training with a shot at earning a fourth outfield/backup first baseman slot, but he does not project to be more than that and may open 2011 back at Triple-A Buffalo.

2010

Evans, who nearly made the Mets out of spring training, was sent down to make room for Gary Sheffield. Evans struggled mightily after the demotion, requiring a stint at Double-A Binghamton to regain his hitting stroke. He excelled there and made it back up to New York in summer for a month before being sent down again, but was a September callup. Evans will likely begin 2010 at Triple-A and could be on the New York shuttle a few times again.

2009

Evans followed up a solid 2007 season with a fast start in for Double-A Binghamton to earn a promotion to the parent club for nine games. After being sent back down for a month, he earned another callup and remained in New York for the rest of the year, seeing some at-bats against southpaws. Evans is limited defensively, but his bat is promising, so look for him to start 2009 at Triple-A Buffalo and probably get promoted again during the year.
