2007
Thompson was a super sub for San Diego in 2006, making 16 starts as an injury replacement. He was far from overpowering, but changes speeds effectively and could grow into a No. 4 or No. 5 role in the future. Thompson is expected to begin 2007 in Triple-A and should reprise his 2006 role as a super sub. With two guys over 40 (Greg Maddux and David Wells) in San Diego's starting rotation, plus Jake Peavy's creaky shoulder, Thompson will probably be needed at some point.
