2013
There was no outlook written for Travis Metcalf.
2009
Metcalf failed to hit at Triple-A (.253/.300/.370 in 265 at-bats), resulting in only occasional playing time in the majors when injuries dictated. He's way down on the list to take over at third base should Hank Blalock be limited to DH-only duties, and the fact that Texas doesn't consider him an option is all you need to know.
2008
Metcalf took over briefly as Texas' third baseman when Hank Blalock was sidelined, but his playing time waned as his bat struggled. His post-break numbers (.287/.331/.491 in 108 at-bats) in a reserve role were better, but his career minor league numbers don't indicate any sort of long-term projectable power. He could start the year at the end of the Texas bench if things go well in spring, but the more likely scenario has him starting the year as an everyday player at Triple-A.
