2013
There was no outlook written for Matthew Brown.
2009
Brown improved in a repeat engagement with Triple-A Salt Lake by batting .320 with 21 home runs and 67 RBI. He also cut down on his strikeouts and improved on his on-base percentage, signs that show his eye at the plate is improving. Unfortunately for Brown, the Angels have top prospects ahead of him at both third base and first base and he will have trouble finding a regular job on the club. Brown has nothing left to prove in Triple-A; so if he doesn’t make the final roster out of spring training, look for him to get a fresh start with a new team.
2008
Brown had a good season in 2007, batting .276 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI while serving mostly as a utility player at Triple-A Salt Lake. He had an impressive .509 slugging percentage but like many other players at Salt Lake, struck out over 100 times during the season. Brown is versatile, but it will be difficult for him to find a spot with the Angels, who have a surplus of young, quality infielders, and he will likely return to his utility role at Salt Lake next season.
2007
Even though they added him to the 40-man roster, it's hard to see Brown having a future in this organization. He's a high-strikeout guy without much speed, and even his good 2006 season comes with caveats about his age and strikeout-rate. He's likely to end up a minor-league veteran.
