No, he's not that Ryan Braun, and unfortunately he did not match Milwaukee's Ryan Braun in terms of first-season production. He was dominant in 23 Triple-A Omaha appearances, posting a WHIP below 1.000 and an ERA just above 1.00, but he was years older than his competition. He is a groundball pitcher with a poor strikeout rate and he should pitch in extended relief for the Royals.
2007
Braun progressed slowly after being a 28th-round selection by the Royals in 1998. Even after four years of college pitching, he spent a season in rookie ball, two in Single-A and last year began in Double-A, in each case likely as the oldest pitcher in the league. He dominated his younger opponents to the tune of 170 strikeouts in 152 innings, but has struggled with control. Early success at Triple-A Omaha in 2007 will probably give him some shots in Kansas City.
