2013
There was no outlook written for Aaron Poreda.
2010
A huge guy with a big fastball, Poreda hit the lottery by being traded from the White Sox to the Padres, about as big a swing as you can make in home parks. Write off his late-season command problems and focus on the heater and the great big park in which he'll pitch and snap him up. The downside is that his secondary pitches remain...well, secondary, leaving the door open for conversion to relief. At 23, he has time to work it out.
2009
A rare Sox pitching prospect with upside, Poreda looks a bit like a southpaw Aaron Harang, big and burly, and that size should be an asset as a starter. His trouble developing his breaking stuff, though, may lead him to life in the bullpen. In either case, he's worth reserving this year with an eye toward having him contribute in 2010.
2008
Poreda, the White Sox first pick in the June draft (25th overall), came out firing. He completely dominated in the Rookie League, allowing 29 hits and 10 walks in 46.1 innings while striking out 48. The 6'6" lefty features a mid-90s fastball and a good, if inconsistent, slider. If the White Sox got really ballsy they'd give him a chance to win a bullpen spot in the spring but he'll likely remain a starter for now and start the season at Single-A.
