The Rangers released Kiker on Thursday, MLB.com's TR Sullivan reports.
ANALYSIS
Kiker was taken 12th overall in the 2006 draft, but he never rose above Double-A with Texas and, after being moved to a bullpen role, finished with an ERA over 7.00 each of the last two seasons. He'll likely hook on with another team but his prospect status has faded.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2007
Kiker had a nice rebound season at Double-A Frisco, allowing just 108 hits and fanning 120 in 126 innings, but there's still plenty of work to be done as witnessed by his 66 walks. He doesn't keep the ball on the ground very well either, and he faded down the stretch (27 hits, 17:15 K:BB over his final 19 innings) after missing time last season due to arm fatigue. He'll need to build on last season and cut back on the walks if he wants to distinguish himself in one of the best farm systems in baseball, but the drop in H/9IP in 2008 was a step in the right direction.
Kiker battled arm fatigue mid-season, and struggled for the most part in his second full season as a pro after being a first-round pick in 2006. His numbers after his return (28.2 innings, 35 hits, 32:11 K:BB) weren't much better than his season totals and he's slipping well behind of some of Texas' more advanced arms.
Kiker had a nice first full season in pro ball after being selected in the 2006 draft. He's just 20 years old, and will need to handle advanced competition before we can start projecting him further, but there's a lot to like so far.
Kiker was Texas' first-round pick in the June draft and held his own against older competition at Spokane of the Northwest League. He's just turned 19 and needs to work on his control a bit (35 walks in 52.1 innnings in 2006) but could advance rapidly with a solid season of full-season ball.
