Leroux was dealt to the Blue Jays on Sunday, Zach Links of MLB Trade Rumors reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old will likely function as bullpen depth at Triple-A Buffalo for the Blue Jays, who don't appear to have designs of adding him to the 40-man roster at present. Leroux spent most of 2015 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies' organization, compiling a 2.82 ERA and 1.09 WHIP over 60.2 innings.

Leroux passed through waivers unclaimed during the 2012 season, much to the surprise of Pittsburgh. Moved to the rotation at Triple-A, the righty registered a 3.11 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 63.2 innings for the Indianapolis after missing the first half with a strained pectoral muscle. Leroux gave up seven runs in 11 innings for the Pirates in 10 September relief outings. He put up a 12:2 K:BB ratio for the Bucs, but at 28, the odds aren't on his side for long-term major league success.
With an average fastball clocked at 93.6 mph, Leroux throws hard and has a good strikeout rate (8.3 K/9IP career at Triple-A) with decent control. He gave the Pirates innings in the second half of the season when they were hard to come by, but he doesn't project prominently in the Pittsburgh bullpen. There's some thought that he could be a late bloomer as a converted catcher, but he hasn't lit the world on fire in the minors. He did have an impressive 2.88 ERA in 25 big league innings last season, but he still hasn't established himself as a big leaguer -- something he looks to do in 2012.
Pittsburgh claimed Leroux late in the 2010 campaign from Florida. The lanky right-hander appeared in six games as a reliever, showing a good fastball but with little control. If he can harness his mid-90s fastball, then there's a chance he could spend some time in Pittsburgh's bullpen. Most likely, however, he'll throw for Triple-A Indianapolis. Leroux is a converted catcher, so there's a slight possibility that he could be a late bloomer. There's little reason to pick him up in fantasy leagues, however, until he commands his fastball.
Leroux put up decent numbers at Double-A in 2009 but got crushed in a couple of brief big league stints, and given that the Marlins have plenty of other sinkerball pitchers with better resumes in their system, it should be very tough for Leroux to earn any sort of regular bullpen job in Florida.
