RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014-15

There was no outlook written for Chris Webber.

2006-07

Webber had his best statistical season since 2003 last year, and purely off his numbers (20.2 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.4 spg, .8 bpg) he would be worthy of consideration in the first couple rounds of fantasy drafts. But age (33) and a history of injuries (including microfracture knee surgery in 2003) make Webber a very risky player to draft. Webber enjoyed surprisingly good health last season by playing in 75 games, but that was only the third time in a 14 year career that Webber has played that many games (his career-high is 76 games). Considering that from 2001 until 2005 he never missed fewer than 15 games in a season (and missed 49 in 2003-04) its hard to depend on getting Webbers production for a full season, and that pushes him further down the draft than his pure numbers would suggest.

2005-06

Let someone else spend an early-round pick on the player Chris Webber used to be. While the ex-Wolverine's season numbers look impressive (19.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game), the numbers after he went to Philadelphia tell a different story. C-Webb put up just 15.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game as a Sixer, and while he may improve a bit as he gets used to playing with Allen Iverson, his days as a consistent 20-point scorer are over. Webber also shoots a low percentage for a big man (43%), and wont get you more than a block per game these days. Webber is also exceedingly brittle he hasnt played more than 67 games in a season since 2000-01.

2004-05

Chris Webber - sleeper? Huh? Well, consider: just 23 games played last year, after injuries and rehab and suspensions killed most of his season. In the playoffs, he seemed completely immobile. And yet, just a couple of seasons ago, he was an all-NBA first-teamer. Reports out of Sacramento have Webber healthy for the first time in years. Take a long look at him in your draft. You could luck into a first-round talent in the third or fourth.

2003-04

Webber begins the season with problems both on and off the court. And while a federal judge recently deferred Webber's sentencing for lying to a federal grand jury for two years, he still faces the problem of rehabing his knee, which may force him to miss the start of the regular season. That said, when Webber is healthy he is one of the most consistent fantasy producers in the league, and can be counted on for 24 points, 10 boards, and five assists per game. In addition, Webber will put up a block and a half and a steal and a half. Webber is a risk/reward pick that can carry your fantasy team if he stays healthy.
