Sets school record
November 22, 2016
Cox carried the ball 21 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns to go along with three catches for 27 yards in Saturday’s win over Louisiana Monroe.
ANALYSIS
Cox became the Mountaineers’ all-time leading rusher on Saturday. The senior back has a career-high 6.1 yards per carry so far this season and has at least 17 touches in every game that he has been healthy. He’ll have a good matchup this Saturday against the New Mexico State defense allowing five yards per rush.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Cox (5-10, 200) has to be one of the nation's five most accomplished returning players, carrying three years of star status into his senior season. Cox has 4,088 rushing yards (5.5 YPC) and 43 TDs in 36 games, and quietly possesses standout pass-catching skill with 77 receptions for 899 yards and eight TDs. Great as he might be, Cox's weekly fantasy consistency might disappoint, as Appalachian State is one of the most dominant squads outside the Power Five, meaning there may be a blowout or five along the way. Backup Jalin Moore is too good to not steal carries on such days.
Cox's receptions dropped from 43 to 16 last year, but his rushing somehow improved with Appalachian State's move to FBS. Cox, 5-10, 200, finished with 255 carries for 1,415 yards (5.5 YPC) and 19 touchdowns, which means he could be unstoppable if he regains the receiving prowess he showed as a true freshman in 2013 when he totaled 559 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. Appalachian State's returning offense is stacked with experience at every position, so Cox's scoring opportunities could be even more plentiful.
Although he's making a significant jump in competition from the FCS to the Sun Belt, Cox (5-10, 185) looks like one of the nation's premier fantasy backs this year, especially in PPR formats. Cox not only ran for 1,250 yards (5.1 YPC) and 15 touchdowns as a true freshman last year, but he reeled in an impressive 43 catches for 559 yards (13.0 YPC) and six touchdowns. That's 29.2 fantasy points per game in PPR, 25.5 points per game in standard scoring. Other than a Week 1 game against Michigan, Appalachian State's schedule is free of intimidating matchups, so Cox should keep rolling this year. The Mountaineers also return all of their starters from last season's offensive line.
