Oklahoma: Ryan Broyles Suffers ACL Injury
Knee
November 5, 2011
Broyles suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Texas A&M on Saturday, Oklahoman writer Travis Haney reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a crushing loss for Oklahoma and, beyond that, is an injury that complicates Broyle's NFL future. The draft takes place in April and the evaluation process begins months earlier than that, and if Broyle's injury is a tear, it's doubtful that he would be healthy enough to participate in most of that process. Broyles was a near lock for the top 40 (if not first round) prior to the injury, in any case, and there's probably enough tape documenting his standout skills for him to remain a high pick. In the meantime, Kenny Stills will likely take over as Oklahoma's top receiver, and Jaz Reynolds figures to take a significantly bigger role, too. Stills is a must-own fantasy option, and Reynolds might be the same at this point. Broyles ends his college career as one of the best players Oklahoma and the NCAA have ever seen.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2011
2010
Broyles has been simply spectacular the last two years, totaling 220 catches for 2,742 yards as a receiver while finding the end zone a total of 31 times. With quarterback Landry Jones heading into this third year as a starter, there’s no reason to expect that productivity to go anywhere in 2011. Broyles saw his catch-per-game average increase by two from 2009 to 2010, and his yards-per-game increasing by 22 in the same span, so he might not be done improving.
There might not be a better player on the Oklahoma roster, as Broyles could turn out to be the country's best wide receiver in 2010. Whether he'll be the top fantasy wideout isn't as clear, because for as high-flying as Oklahoma's offense is, it isn't as crazy as a couple others. But Broyles scored 17 times as a sophomore last year, and he should definitely break double-digit scores again this year. He's a threat to score as a runner, receiver and returner, and he's all but unstoppable when healthy. He's worth a high pick in all formats.
