Haralson was released by the Saints on Saturday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
Following the release of Junior Galette, it appeared the 31-year-old Haralson would have a shot at a starting job, but he doesn't seem to fit with the Saints' new plan on defense. It won't be surprising if he signs with another team in short order, as he's played either 15 or 16 games in seven of the last eight seasons, with at least two sacks each year.

Haralson re-signed with the Saints this offseason and will compete for playing time following the offseason release of Junior Galette. Haralson started 12 games for the Saints last season and finished with 35 tackles and three sacks, primarily working as a run defender when the team run its 3-4 defense. Paralson's modest production in a starting role last year leaves him off the IDP radar in most formats, even if he is able to secure a starting gig.
Haralson, who recorded 35 tackles and 3.5 sacks for the Saints in 16 games in 2013, will start at outside linebacker for the Saints, though he will likely be part of a rotation with some of the team's young pass-rushing specialists, including rookies Khairi Fortt and Ronald Powell.
Haralson is looking to make a comeback after missing all of 2012 with a torn triceps. After being traded to New Orleans during the preseason, he will serve in a reserve role but should land a spot as a primary backup outside linebacker. His contribution to fantasy will be minimal unless further injuries befall the starting linebacker corps.
Haralson will likely be a backup outside linebacker.
Haralson's sack totals dipped slightly to five during the 2009 season, but he did manage to post a career-high 45 tackles. In addition to his duties as a starting outside linebacker, Haralson will see plenty of work at defensive end when the 49ers switch to a 4-3 for pass rush situations.
Haralson still needs to come through on the consistency, but the pass rushing ability is certainly there. He will start at outside linebacker.
Haralson is expected to battle for a starting LB position in 2008.
Suffered through an injury-plagued rookie season, missing the first week with a foot injury and the second half of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. Prior to being hurt the second time, was starting to come on as a third-down pass rusher. Haralson may end up battling Roderick Green, who replaced him when he tore his pec muscle, to make the roster and be a situational pass rusher behind Tully Banta-Cain.
Transitioning from defensive end to outside linebacker. Will be used to generate pressure on the QB and could end up starting by year-end.
