RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Aubrayo Franklin.
Franklin is an experienced veteran of 11 years and he will battle for the starting nose tackle position with Josh Chapman. Generally more of a run-stuffer historically, he will no doubt be part of the rotation on the defensive line.
It is believed that the Chargers acquired Franklin to add depth to the defensive line. He will probably not get a lot of playing time in 2012.
Franklin, who recorded 39 tackles last year, will team up with Sedrick Ellis and Shaun Rogers to form one of the most feared defensive tackle rotations in the league. While the Saints defense should be a force, Franklin may actually suffer from a fantasy standpoint. He may see a slight increase in sacks with the reduced attention on the line, but the 3-man rotation will likely mean he will see fewer snaps, and thus, fewer opportunities.
Franklin is expected to sign his one-year franchise tender and report to the 49ers by the time training camp opens. He'll be the team's primary run stuffer in the middle of the defensive line once again this season. Franklin won't post flashy stats, but he makes linebacker Patrick Willis' job much easier.
Franklin will start at nose tackle.
Franklin is expected to challenge for a backup spot on the 49ers' defensive line in 2008, and provides no value as an IDP.
Starting nose tackle in 49ers 3-4 scheme, expected to tie up center and guard to free up linebackers to make tackles.
Backup nose tackle.
