Tommy Maddox

The former insurance salesman played like one last year and will give way to rookie Ben Roethlisberger eventually. Maddox' maddening inconsistency might make that transition occur sooner rather than later, as might the Steelers' generally poor play.

Maddox's final passing numbers last year were fantastic for someone who started only 11 games – 2,836 yards, 20 touchdowns – and he added another 633 yards and five touchdowns in the playoffs. If Maddox is able to do that for a full season – and we're not sure he will be – we're looking at another Peyton Manning. The Steelers were impressed enough with Maddox that they let Kordell Stewart walk at the end of the year, and Maddox has the benefit of arguably the league's best wide receiver duo in Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress.
