RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Jarvis Jones.
To characterize Jones' career after three seasons as a disappointment would be kind. A variety of injuries has resulted in him missing one out of every four games, and ultimately to the Steelers' decision to decline a 2017 fifth-year option. Perhaps having to play for his next contract will motivate Jones to perform at the level that led to being selected with the 17th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, but until he does, fantasy owners should temper their expectations.
Jones has battled numerous injuries in his first two seasons, playing in just 21 games. A bit of a disappointment thus far, he will compete with James Harrison for the starting right outside linebacker position this season.
Jones turned in a solid rookie season, earning a starting position opposite Jason Worilds. Along with Lawrence Timmons and rookie Ryan Shazier, the Steelers' linebacking corps has the potential to be among the league's best.
The Steelers will look for Jones to start sooner rather than later. It's hard to envision Jason Worilds holding off Jones for more than a week or two into the regular season. Like most 3-4 outside linebackers, Jones' IDP upside might be limited by the position he plays, because it rarely affords itself to many tackle opportunities.
