RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Kevin Carter.
Likely the top reserve at multiple D-line positions. 3 sacks, 32 solo tackles in 2007.
The Bucs will employ Carter as a tackle rather than at end, and he'll push Chris Hovan for playing time at the nose.
Carter benefited from playing opposite Jason Taylor in 2005, recording six sacks for the second straight season. Expect the same, plus 50 or so total tackles in 2006.
At thirty years old, Carter is the oldest member of the Titans' defensive unit, and his age started to show in 2003. Carter posted the second lowest sack total of his nine-year career last season, and appeared outmatched on a number of occasions. With the departure of Jevon Kearse, Carter becomes the premier sack man on the Titans, but he appears to be in the twilight of his career.
After recording 39.5 sacks from 1998 to 2000 with the Rams, including a 17-sack ‘99 season, Carter signed with the Titans and managed a measley two sacks in a dismal, injury-nagged 2001 campaign. Carter bounced back last year with 10 sacks. If Jevon Kearse can get healthy, and Albert Haynesworth develops, Carter could have a big season working one-on-one much of the time.
