Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
After corralling 11 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown in his rookie 2015 campaign, Dye was expected to build on those numbers while also potentially offering some upside as a returner last season. Instead, a preseason injury hamstring injury largely derailed those plans, and the Heidelberg product didn’t net any statistics in 2016. Dye is back at full health this summer and pushing for the top kick returner job, as well as a possible fifth receiver role. However, the Bucs’ receiver depth chart is laden with considerably more talent than two campaigns ago, and Dye will have to likely beat out Josh Huff – who’s more accomplished as a pass catcher and also has solid potential as a returner – to secure a place on the 53-man come Week 1.
Dye had some trouble adjusting to the NFL game after a standout career at Division III Heidelberg, where he also ran one season of track and field in addition to impressing on the gridiron. His blazing 4.4 speed was somewhat undermined by inconsistent hands, as he secured only 11 of 30 targets in his rookie campaign, while also hauling in a touchdown. On the bright side, Dye received extended reps due to veteran Louis Murphy's season-ending knee injury in Week 6, experience that could certainly serve him well in this summer's battle for a backup receiver spot. The 22-year-old also had some limited experience on kick returns last season, gaining 37 yards on two runbacks. He totaled 238 yards on 10 college kickoff returns as well, giving him a decent amount of experience in an area that he'll likely compete in during training camp.
