2023 Fantasy Outlook
Detroit's search for a No. 1 cornerback in the post-Darius Slay era has not been pretty, but Sutton - who matched Slay with the eight-most PBUs (15) league-wide last year - offers plenty of hope. That he was given a three-year, $33 million deal suggests he is expected to be an every-down player like he was in Pittsburgh over the last two years, and his strong record of health (two missed games over the past five seasons) bodes well for his ability to stay off the sidelines going forward. Another 50ish tackles and a chance at double-digit PBUs is in the cards in 2023. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Underwhelming in Detroit
Sutton recorded 65 tackles, six passes defended including one interception and one forced fumble over 17 regular-season games in 2023.
ANALYSIS
Detroit made Sutton one of the top-20 most highly paid cornerbacks in the league last season, but didn't exactly get a great return on their investment. While he continued to be reliable from a health standpoint, he played a large role in a secondary that allowed the sixth-most passing touchdowns (28), the sixth-most passing yards per game (247.4), and the most passing plays of 20-plus yards (69) in 2023. Under contract for at least one more season before the Lions could realistically part ways with him, Sutton should get every chance to re-establish himself next season, but it wouldn't be a surprise if Detroit tries to upgrade at outside cornerback during the offseason.
