Stecker did not have a carry in Sunday's game against the Giants. He was the Falcons No. 2 running back with Michael Turner (ankle) and Jerious Norwood (hip) injured.
ANALYSIS
Stecker may need another week to learn the playbook, but we do not recommend Stecker as a good fantasy option despite the Falcons' thin running back depth chart.

Stecker had a career year in 2007. With both Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush out late in the season due to injuries, Stecker was called upon to be the starter and rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns in a three-game span from Weeks 14-16. Stecker finished the season with personal bests in both rushing yards (448) and touchdowns (5). Despite his success in 2007, Stecker is unlikely to factor much into the Saints offense this year. Both Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister are projected to be fully healthy by the start of the regular season, and the Saints are likely to try and get the ball into Pierre Thomas' hands more often. Unless two of those three running backs get hurt, Stecker won't have much fantasy value in 2008.
It's tough being the third string running back on a team with Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. Stecker got just four carries last year, while the two running backs ahead of him on the depth chart combined for 399 carries. Stecker will also have to compete for playing time and a roster spot with rookie Antonio Pittman this season, meaning Stecker isn't likely to improve much on his 2006 stats.
Following Deuce McAllister's season-ending knee injury in Week 5 of the 2005 season, Stecker began sharing backfield duties with Antowain Smith and the career backup posted career highs across the board as a result. The good news for Stecker is that Smith left the Saints during the offseason, the bad news is that McAllister is returning from knee surgery and that the team drafted Reggie Bush. Stecker will reprise his role as a reserve this season, and he will need both the aformentioned running backs to get injured this year if he hopes to come close to the 363 rushing yards and 35 receptions he posted in 2005.
Stecker will start the season as the Saints` third-string back but will get a few touches each game.
Stecker was signed this offseason to be the primary backup to Deuce McAllister.
Take away one 59-yard run against the Browns, and Stecker wasn't very productive in 2002; just 115 yards in his other 27 carries, 13 catches for 69 yards, and a so-so 25.6 average in 36 kickoff returns (led the team, but not that many runbacks thanks to the Bucs' defense). At risk of losing playing time to Travis Stephens on offense and Jacquez Green or Terry Kirby on runbacks in 2003.
