RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Zack Crockett.
Expected to compete with free agent signee Justin Griffith at fullback for the Raiders.
Crockett is penciled in as Oakland's starting fullback for 2006. A hard runner and an improving blocker, Crockett won't be much of a factor as a fantasy performer, however his ability to create running room for Lamont Jordan will be critical to the success of the Raiders' running game. A capable receiver and good goal line runner, it is possible that Crockett will make some contributions to the box score, however, he is now three years removed from his seven touchdown season in 2003 and it seems unlikely that Shell will call his number enough times to make him even an emergency play in fantasy.
It remains to be seen how Turner intends to use Crockett, but take note that Crockett gained 213 yards, a 4.7 average, and two touchdowns on 45 carries the last month of the 2004 season. He has upside if heís thrust into extended playing time. Moreover, he could split time with LaMont Jordan in the team's goal-line package.
Crockett, a short yardage and goal line specialist, scored seven touchdowns last season. It remains to be seen how head coach Norv Turner plans to use Crockett because Turnerís history show that he prefers to let his featured guy get the goal line the carries. If Turner decides to continue to use Crockett when the team is in close, he remains a solid option for the touchdown only leagues.
Crockett proved to be a short gain specialist in the red zone pounding home eight touchdowns in 2002. Twenty-five of his 40 carries came inside the opponentís 20. Expect him to play a similar role this season.
