Smith (drug suspension) is eligible for reinstatement by the league next month and the Vikings say they will welcome back to the team. "The way this coaching staff responds to players, this would be the right environment for him to move his career forward," owner Zygi Wilf told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2016

There was no outlook written for Onterrio Smith.

2005

He will miss the season after being suspended for a full year for a third violation of the league's drug policy.

2004

Smith proved last year that Viking scouts were right in assessing his talent as worthy of a first-round pick (even though they actually picked Smith in round four). Onterrio averaged 6.4 yards on 57 December carries. Smith also showed ability as a receiver, something that’s always eluded Michael Bennett’s grasp. Although Smith has the size and skills to be a good goal-line runner, Moe Williams (4-for-18 converting inside-the-10 runs last year; 11-for-26 in ’02) will likely muck up the Vikings’ RB picture even further.

2003

Smith easily could have gone in the first or second round of the 2003 draft, but character issues pushed him back to the fourth round. He'll get a shot at playing time right away, with Michael Bennett out with a foot injury. Bottom line, Smith should be on anyone's sleeper list as of August 2003.
