Smith (NFL suspension) has been cut by the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Toronto Star reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Smith suffered a foot injury early in training camp and was unable to impress the team enough in the last few days to stick. For now, his once-promising football career is in the toilet, something that not even an Original Whizzinator can hide.
Smith (suspension) has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the TSN.ca reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Smith, who was recently released by the Vikings after reportedly being told he won't be reinstated from a drug suspension this season, has a chance to work hard, stay clean and prove that he can still play football. With a career average per carry of 4.9 yards, Smith has proven before that he can play in the NFL. Now it's time for Smith to prove that he can remain clean and be productive at the same time.
Smith may sign with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Smith, who is under suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, has been notified by the NFL that he will not be reinstated in June, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This report has not yet been confirmed by Smith or the Vikings, but if it's true, the running back will go from being a fantasy long-shot to a player whose NFL career is in peril.
Smith (drug suspension) is eligible for reinstatement by the league next month and the Vikings say they will welcome back to the team. "The way this coaching staff responds to players, this would be the right environment for him to move his career forward," owner Zygi Wilf told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "But all that's subject to his reinstatement."

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Smith is a wild card for the 2006 fantasy season as it's hard to know what kind of shape he'll be in physically or mentally after missing a season due to third violation of the league's drug policy. However, if he's reinstated it looks like the coaching staff may let him contend for a sizable role.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Onterrio Smith.

2005

He will miss the season after being suspended for a full year for a third violation of the league's drug policy.

2004

Smith proved last year that Viking scouts were right in assessing his talent as worthy of a first-round pick (even though they actually picked Smith in round four). Onterrio averaged 6.4 yards on 57 December carries. Smith also showed ability as a receiver, something that’s always eluded Michael Bennett’s grasp. Although Smith has the size and skills to be a good goal-line runner, Moe Williams (4-for-18 converting inside-the-10 runs last year; 11-for-26 in ’02) will likely muck up the Vikings’ RB picture even further.

2003

Smith easily could have gone in the first or second round of the 2003 draft, but character issues pushed him back to the fourth round. He'll get a shot at playing time right away, with Michael Bennett out with a foot injury. Bottom line, Smith should be on anyone's sleeper list as of August 2003.
