Vernand Morency: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Morency has looked good during training camp and will see extended time during Sunday's preseason game.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Though Brandon Jackson is still considered the backup to Ryan Grant, the Packers have been happy with what they've seen from Morency this year. Jackson missed two blitz pickups during last week's preseason game and stuff like that will open up the door to more playing time for Morency.
Morency, a restricted free agent, signed a one-year, $927,000 contract to remain with the Packers, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

There was no outlook written for Vernand Morency.

2008

Morency was used primarily as a pass catcher and third down back in 2007. He should resume that role in 2008 behind Ryan Grant.

2007

Morency impressed in limited action last year, averaging 4.6 YPC. However, he experienced fumbling problems in the past, and the 91 rushing attempts were actually a career-high, so he has to prove he can hold up as a feature back. There's a chance Morency is given a bigger role in the offense with Ahman Green's departure, but Green Bay also drafted Brandon Jackson in the second round. Jackson is a similar runner to Morency and knows the zone-blocking scheme from college, so he could challenge Morency for the starting job. A timeshare is likely with Jackson having more upside.

2006

Domanick Davis' knee injury, which forced him to the injured reserve list in Sept. 2006, gives Morency and Wali Lundy a chance to share the running back job. Head coach Gary Kubiak will begin the season rotating the two with Lundy the starter. The position is still in flux, so we could still see Morency emerge as the go-to guy. We might even see a red zone specialist emerge. Bottom line, keep an eye on this job as it could change.

2005

In one of the most-watched position battles in training camp, Morency is competing with Tony Hollings to become the backup to Domanick Davis at running back. Texans coach Dom Capers is looking to lighten the load on Davis, so his backup could have some fantasy value.
