Avant signed a one-year contract with the Panthers on Monday.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Used as the third receiver for much of his time in Philadelphia, Avant has ample experience working out of the slot and should fill such a role with the Panthers in 2014. While he would still appear to have very limited upside -- particularly in non-PPR leagues -- the veteran couldn't have found a better landing spot for fantasy purposes. He joins a receiving corps that includes tight end Greg Olsen, Jerricho Cotchery, Tiquan Underwood, and little else of note. Avant should have every chance to carve out a role in the offense, but Cotchery and perhaps Underwood will also be competing for playing time and targets. Given the poor quality of the talent that they've added at the position in recent weeks, the Panthers still figure to target a wide receiver early in May's draft.

Avant was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

After eight years with the Eagles, the 30-year-old Avant hauled in his least number of receptions in five seasons in 2013, when he posted 38 catches (on 76 targets) for 447 yards and two touchdowns. The slot receiver should be able to find some takers on the open market, which could result in greater usage in a new passing attack. Moreover, with only four absences in the last seven seasons, his durability should aid in sustaining his waning fantasy value.
Avant will likely be released by the Eagles in March, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Avant is due a $1 million roster bonus in March, and the Eagles can save approximately $3.25 million against the 2014 cap by cutting him. With Riley Cooper re-signed, releasing Avant looks like an even easier decision. The veteran turns 31 in April and is coming off a season that saw him catch just 38 passes for 447 yards on 76 targets (5.9 yards per target). Avant is unlikely to find work as anything more than No. 3 or No. 4 receiver.
Avant saw six targets and caught five passes for 21 yards during the Eagles' 26-24 loss to the Saints in the NFC wild-card game Saturday.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2014

Subscribe now to see our 2014 outlook.

2013

What's been the case with Avant his whole career remained the same in 2012: He can serve as an effective short-route option, but he has very little big-play ability. He remarkably has just 10 touchdowns on 259 career receptions and as Philadelphia's third receiver at best in 2013, he's unlikely to make a fantasy impact in most cases.

2012

Avant was efficient as the teams No. 3 receiver last year, averaging 8.4 YPT and 13.1 YPC in a possession role. At 6-0, 212, hes strong, stoutly built and more able to take a shot over the middle of the field than the faster, more dynamic Jeremy Maclin/DeSean Jackson combo. Hes got good hands, and hes a solid route-runner, but hes not fast and will not provide anything down the field zero catches of 40-yards or more in the last two years. Hes a better option in PPR leagues, and even then it would be nice if the Eagles looked his way more in the red zone (eight targets).

2011

DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are the team's stars, but Avant emerged as the clear No. 3 last year with 73 targets, 51 catches and 7.7 YPT. At 6-0, 209, Avant has more strength and bulk than his explosive teammates and is able to make tough catches in the middle of the field. Avant has good hands (3 drops) and knows how to find space on shorter routes. In short, he's a reliable chain mover and could be asked to take on a bigger role in the Eagles' pass-happy offense should anything happen to one of the starters.

2010

Avant will be the team's No. 3 wide receiver. He'll be playing in a productive system in a pass-happy scheme, but Avant is no better than the fourth or fifth option in Philadelphia's offense.

2009

Avant will battle to be the team's No. 4 or No. 5 wide receiver, as the team has plenty of depth at the position. He's unlikely to make much of an impact with so few targets.

2008

Will fight for third or fourth receiver role in training camp. Could be cut.

2007

Avant, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2006 draft, was virtually nonexistent during his rookie season - catching just seven balls all season long. He enters 2007 as the fifth wide receiver in Philadelphia.

2006

Rookie receiver who will likely just provide depth to the receiving corps.
