RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Anthony Smith.
Smith will compete for a starting safety spot in training camp.
Smith has picked up two interceptions in each of his two seasons in Pittsburgh and added 69 tackles last season. Entrenched behind Troy Polamalu on the depth chart, he would have decent potential if Polamalu, who has missed eight games over the last two seasons, were to get hurt.
Smith could evolve into a viable IDP with his ability to stack up the interceptions. He was a playmaker at Syracuse with 14 career picks and six blocked kicks. He intercepted a pair of passes for Pittsburgh late last year while starting for the injured Ryan Clark and could weave his way into a starting position with a strong training camp. He's a hard hitter who's worth keeping a fantasy eye on as his career matures.
A rookie free safety with 4.6 speed in the 40, Smith is a big hitter who intercepted six passes as a senior at Syracuse in 2005. He'll provide secondary depth for the Steelers.
