X-rays taken on Staley's ankle were negative, CSN Bay Area reports. "I think we're going to dodge a bullet there," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of Staley. "He's going to walk that one off."

Staley injured his ankle on a run play with two minutes left in the 49ers' win over the Rams Thursday night. He stayed down for a few moments, letting out a very audible scream, but refused to be taken off the field on a cart. With x-ray results showing no break, the team will see how he does for a day or two before deciding whether an MRI is necessary. Staley is a force on the offensive line, so Frank Gore and Colin Kaepernick owners can breathe a sigh of relief.

2007

Staley, who the 49ers traded a first-pick in 2008 and fourth-pick this year to select in the first round, was a left tackle at Central Michigan but is projected to be the 49ers' future starting right tackle, a position he worked at during OTAs with Kwame Harris out with back spasms. If he does not start at right tackle this year, he will serve as a backup at that spot and left tackle.
