Moore -- who did not play in 2018 -- signed with the Chiefs after Chad Henne suffered a fractured ankle in late August that landed him on IR. While Moore won't be in line see any regular-season action unless Mahomes suffers an injury, or there's garbage-time snaps to be had at some point, he provides the team with an experienced veteran option in such scenarios.
Moore will once again be the backup quarterback behind Ryan Tannehill this season. Considered to be one of the better reserves in the NFL, Moore is a veteran signal-caller who can be called upon in the event of an injury. He proved last year that he can handle the starting job should the need arise, as he completed 63.4 percent of his passes and threw eight touchdowns in three games when Tannehill couldn't play due to ACL and MCL sprains in his left knee.
Moore will once again be the backup behind starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He is a perfect fit for this positon. He has been with the team since 2011, understands the offense as well as anyone, and knows exactly what his role is with the team. Moore is the definition of a veteran QB that can hold down the fort and keep the team afloat if the starter were to go down to injury.
With the Dolphins recently inking starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a long-term contract extension, Moore remains nothing more than one of the best backups in the league. Like most second-stringers, Moore's value to Miami comes in the form of a safety valve should Tannehill get injured. Knowing that, Moore only holds situational fantasy value that the Dolphins understandably hope never comes to fruition.
Moore is considered to be one of the top backup quarterbacks in the league. Not so much because he has the skills to be a starter for a complete season but because he's a player who knows his role on the team, accepts it, and can handle the starting job over a short period of time.
Moore is expected to serve as the Dolphins' No. 2 quarterback, as the team views Ryan Tannehill as their quarterback of the future.
Even coming off a 16-touchdown, nine-interception season for Miami last year, Moore’s days as a starter are numbered. The team took quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the eighth overall pick, and he will eventually either earn the starting role or have it handed to him at Moore’s expense. Tannehill is generally quite raw, though, so a solid veteran like Moore should be able to win the Week 1 starting spot and hold on to it for roughly half of the year, at least. Moore is in that case worth drafting in two-quarterback leagues and could warrant spot start consideration in one-quarterback leagues with the right matchup. That’s assuming David Garrard – who will also be in training camp – doesn’t take the job, and also that the Dolphins can find some wideout production to replace the departed Brandon Marshall.
After likely getting pushed further down the Panthers' depth chart behind Cam Newton and Jimmy Clausen, Moore grabbed a two-year contract with the Dolphins to compete with Chad Henne for the starting job in Miami. The Dolphins had been looking at Broncos' quarterback Kyle Orton, but signed Moore instead, likely thinking that the latter would be a serviceable placeholder this season. Moore certainly has a better chance of starting in Miami than Carolina, but neither result is a good one for fantasy purposes.
He was great last year when finally given the ball, especially when compared to Delhomme. Although the team drafted Jimmy Claussen, he is no short-term threat to Moore should Moore play at even an average level. Moore is one of the most interesting late-round QBs, but only because he has just one playmaking WR — Steve Smith — and is on a team that still will seek to win with defense and the running game.
Third-string quarterback.
Moore was touted as a potential steal by some NFL Draft pundits, but after going undrafted in April, he was waived by the Cowboys in September before getting claimed by the Panthers and eventually starting three games down the stretch. That the Panthers didn't draft another quarterback with Jake Delhomme coming off of Tommy John surgery is a pretty good sign that they were impressed with what they saw in Moore late last season. He'll serve as Delhomme's primary backup in 2008, although Brett Basanez could emerge as a potential contender for the job if he has an excellent camp.
Rookie will battle for the #3 QB job, or a spot on the practice squad.
