RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Derrick Harvey.
After being labeled a bust in Jacksonville thanks to his 8.5 sacks in three seasons, Harvey will try to remake his game in Denver, where he will backup (and hopefully learn from) 2009 NFL sack leader Elvis Dumervil. If Harvey proves he can play at a high level, he could even fight Robert Ayers for a starting at defensive end.
There may not be a bigger disappointment on the Jags' roster than Harvey, who has a grand total of 5.5 sacks in the two years since being drafted in the top ten and given a huge contract. Harvey has reportedly slimmed down heading into this season, but he has a long way to go towards reaching the expectations most had for him.
Harvey will start in 2009 after a slow 2008, and will be granted plenty of opportunity to justify the huge rookie contract that the Jags gave the pass-rushing specialist.
The Jags traded up to get Harvey on draft day, so expect him to get plenty of playing time. He is currently listed as the backup left end, but could rack up quite a few sacks as a speed rushing, passing down specialist.
