Choice played in 12 games with the Buffalo Bills and three in Indianapolis before being cut by the Colts. The 29 year-old back will look to latch on somewhere in order to provide depth.
Choice is expected to be the third-stringer behind C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson.
At best, Choice is the No. 3 running back behind Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller, and can be safely ignored unless both backs got hurt. Choice will still have to hold off Johnny White in training camp just to win that No. 3 role.
Choice’s 2010 was similar to his 2009 season, though his YPC fell from 5.5 to 3.7. He’s impressed at times when given the opportunity, but it’s clear Dallas’ coaching staff doesn’t view him as more than a change-of-pace type. The team parted ways with Marion Barber this offseason, but it drafted DeMarco Murray, and Felix Jones remains atop the depth chart as well, so Choice is once again in a timeshare.
Choice didn’t start a single game last season and was given just 64 carries, but when injuries forced him into action, he produced. He got 5.5 YPC on the year and over a three-game stretch (Weeks 3-5), he totaled 290 yards with two touchdowns on 40 carries. He never received even five rushing attempts in a game over the rest of the season, and he enters 2010 third on Dallas’ running back depth chart. Still, Choice plays for a powerful Cowboys offense, and both Marion Barber and Felix Jones have proven to be quite injury prone. If an opportunity presents itself, Choice has the talent and is in the right system to make the most of it. He’s got upside.
The fourth round pick was a revelation as a rookie, taking over the starting role when Marion Barber got hurt and racking up a 5.1 YPC while also contributing in the passing game with 21 catches. If Barber and Felix Jones are healthy he'll be relegated to spot duty, but the Cowboys won't hesitate to lean on Choice if injuries hit the backfield again.
Backup RB will only see significant touches if Marion Barber gets hurt.
