Andre Brown: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Brown is the tentative backup to Arian Foster, but he'll need to prove he can remain healthy, something he hasn't done during his first four NFL seasons, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Brown agreed to a deal with the Texans on Monday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Brown will help the Texans recover from the loss of Ben Tate in free agency by providing a stable backup to starter Arian Foster. The 2009 fourth-rounder spent the beginning of the 2013 season on IR/designated-to-return but came back to play in eight games, in which he racked up 492 yards and three touchdowns for the Giants. With the likes of Dennis Johnson, Jonathan Grimes and Ray Graham representing his main competition on the Texans' roster, Brown could find himself with more value than just a handcuff to Arian Foster, provided he can stay healthy for an entire season.
Brown is slated to visit the Texans on Monday, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

In the wake of Ben Tate's departure in free agency, the Texans are looking for running back depth behind Arian Foster. If Brown -- who carried 139 times for 492 yards with three TDs for the Giants in 2013 -- signs with Houston, he would likely slot in as the team's No. 2 back ahead of the likes of currently-rostered options Dennis Johnson, Jonathan Grimes, and Ray Graham.
Brown came back from a broken leg to rush for 492 yards on 139 carries (3.5 YPC) and three scores in 2013. He also caught 20 passes for 103 yards.

Brown (concussion) participated fully in Thursday's practice, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

The Giants didn't hold drills Wednesday, but both Brown and Peyton Hillis, who is also emerging from the fog of a concussion, would have been limited. Thursday's development confirms that they have received clearance from the league's protocol for head injuries, with Brown poised to lead the Giants' backfield, as he has in the second half of the season.
Brown (concussion) would have been limited, had the Giants held a full practice Wednesday, Tom Rock of New York Newsday reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Both Brown and Peyton Hillis have presumably been cleared from their bouts with recent concussions, but because the Giants' practice was termed a "jog-through," the running back situation should clear up further as the week goes on. Perhaps Brown will be named the starter in the near future, with the completion of Thursday's practice the next opportunity to hash out the pecking order.

2014

2013

A 6-0, 224-pound bruiser with good speed, Brown leapfrogged first-round pick David Wilson on the Giants depth chart last year and averaged 5.3 YPC. Brown made his mark at the goal line as well, converting 8-of-10 attempts inside the five-yard line and scoring in seven of the eight games in which he received a carry. Poised to work in tandem with the dynamic Wilson in 2013, Brown's season was derailed in late August when he sustained a leg fracture in the Giants' preseason finale.

2012

Will vie to make the team as a reserve running back.

2011

Will compete for a reserve role.

2010

Vying to return after an Achilles' injury. Would be a No. 4 back if he's healthy enough to make the roster.

2009

A true power back at 6-0, 228, Brown also ran an impressive 4.49 40 and was rumored to go as high as the second round in the draft. Ultimately, a history of foot problems lowered his stock to the end of the fourth round, where GM Jerry Reese couldnít resist taking the best player available despite little need for a running back. Brown wasted no time immediately impressing in minicamps and was considered the favorite to act as the teamís No. 3 back, though heíll have to beat out Danny Ware. Brown could also beat out Ahmad Bradshaw for the No. 2 role, which remains open for competition. With starter Brandon Jacobs so injury-prone and running behind the NFLís best run-blocking unit, Brown is a good late-round flier. Remember, Derrick Ward totaled 1,409 yards as a backup in this system last season.
