2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Although Dwyer averaged a decent 4.0 YPC for the second straight year, he saw very limited carries with the Steelers behind Le'Veon Bell. Unfortunately, the move to Arizona doesn't look promising for ...

Dwyer showed well during offseason workouts, ESPN.com reports. Coach Bruce Arians stated, "He's in better shape and he's running routes and catching the ball better than I remember. I know he'll pound you and can really run the football. I know he can pass block. But he caught the ball extremely well. He made some catches in the red zone for us. That was a surprise."

The Steelers have signed Dwyer.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Dwyer, who resurfaces with the Steelers after LaRod Stephens-Howling landed on IR with a knee injury, is presumably working behind Isaac Redman out of the gate, and Le'Veon Bell (foot) could return soon. At the very least, however, he provides the Steelers with plug-and-play RB depth.
Dwyer is expected to re-sign with the Steelers, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Dwyer was released by the Steelers on Saturday, the team's official site reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

This is rather surprising, as Dwyer was seemingly in line to open the season as the Steelers' No. 2 running back, and was expected to cut into Isaac Redman's touches. Dwyer fumbled twice during the preseason and has never been a particularly explosive player, but he offers size and power that the the remaining Pittsburgh running backs lack. With Le'Veon Bell presumably out at the beginning of the season, Redman is slated to start, while Felix Jones and LaRod Stephens-Howling round out the depth chart. The Steelers could look to add a veteran free agent in the coming days.

2014

2013

Dwyer led a muddled Steelers backfield in rushing in 2012 but only averaged 4.0 YPC. A downhill, bowling ball of a tailback at 5-11, 230, Dwyer had back-to-back 100-yard performances in Weeks 7 and 8 – each on 17 carries – to tease his potential before stumbling the remainder of the season. As a result, the Steelers drafted Le'Veon Bell and Dwyer was eventually cut by the team in August.

2012

The third year runningback may finally get an oppotunity to play regularly in 2012, after carrying the ball just 25 times in his first two seasons with the Steelers. A "North - South" runner, Dwyer has the strength to wear down defenses while showing flashes of speed.

2010

Dwyer's stock fell in the April draft and the Steelers are hoping they have a steal on their hands because of it. Concerns of his being a college-system back as well as reports of a failed drug test seemed to make teams re-think his value (the positive drug test turned out to be for a long-standing medical condition). However, the Steelers went with a low-risk move by taking him in the sixth round. Rashard Mendenhall is cemented in as the starter, so the team has time to get Dwyer acclimated to the pro game. He will battle Mewelde Moore for the backup position and is also up for consideration for the short-yardage role.
