RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Nate Allen.
Allen became a free agent this offseason after playing five years for the Eagles, who drafted him out of South Florida back in 2010. The Raiders signed Allen in March to fill the void at strong safety left by Tyvon Branch, and they fully expect him to be the starter heading into Week 1. Allen recorded 62 tackles and four interceptions in Philadelphia last season, and he should play a big role in a much improved Raiders defense in 2015.
Allen will compete with second-year player Earl Wolff to start alongside Malcolm Jenkins at safety.
A former second-round pick and a promising starter at safety, a patellar tendon tear in his rookie year has since derailed Allen's ascent. Still, he looks like he should start or serve as third safety for Philly in 2013.
A 2010 patella tendon tear left Allen's athleticism compromised for a disappointing 2011 season in which he totaled just 59 tackles and two interceptions in 15 games, but there's hope that he'll get better in 2012 as his knee gets back into shape. Still, Allen's skill set is that of a coverage safety, meaning he's not a great bet to post a high tackle total.
Cover safety doesn't figure to make enough tackles for most IDP owners.
Allen is the favorite to start at free safety.
