Potter was a long shot to make the Texans' roster, as the Texans are stocked at the position with two productive returnees and then expending a third-round pick on one. He was let go in the final cuts of preseason.
Potter will be used as insurance should Lance Kendricks or Jared Cook get hurt and should see an occasional look from Sam Bradford.
Potter will compete for playing time at tight end, though he doesn't figure to factor prominently into the Jacksonville offense, especially with Marcedes Lewis and Zach Miller (if he can remain healthy) working in front of him.
Potter will battle for a roster spot in training camp.
