Lewis hasn't played in an NFL game over the last two seasons, but he's still somewhat in the mix to help fill the void in the Pats' backfield created by the departure of pass-catching back Shane Veree...

Dion Lewis: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Lewis suffered a season-ending torn left ACL on Sunday against Washington, ESPN.com reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

With Lewis -- who had carved out a significant role in the Patriots' offense particularly as a pass-catcher out of the team's backfield -- now out of the mix, some combo of James White and Brandon Bolden will be called upon to help fill the change-of-pace void behind LeGarrette Blount, who is in line to do the heavy lifting in the team's ground game going forward. Per ESPN's Mike Reiss, the Patriots' current RB pecking order is now Blount, followed by White and Bolden, with Travaris Cadet a candidate to be brought back by the team as a depth option.
Lewis is slated to undergo an MRI on his left knee, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Per the report, while Lewis is not dealing with any swelling just yet, his ACL may be "loose." If so, that's obviously not the greatest sign, but we'll hold off on any estimation of how much time the running back might miss until after the results of his MRI are revealed.
ESPN's Mike Reiss relays that coach Bill Belichick did not have an update on on the status of Lewis (knee) following Sunday's win over Washington.

Lewis was forced out of Sunday's game against Washington with a knee injury.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

With Lewis sidelined for the remainder of the contest and James White inactive on Sunday, Brandon Bolden is on hand to spell LeGarrette Blount in the Patriots' Week 9 offense. If Lewis ends up missing time beyond Sunday, White would figure to absorb a good chunk of the New England backfield's change-of-pace work.
Lewis (abdomen) is listed as active for Sunday's game against Washington.

RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2015

Subscribe now to see our 2015 outlook.

2014

Lewis has carried the ball just 36 times in his three seasons in the league and spent all of last year on IR due to a leg injury, but is healthy now. Although it's a very limited sample, he does have a 4.8 YPC to show for his career so far. An undersized back at 5-8, 195, he lacks elite speed and isn't well suited to three-down work, but he could carve out a complementary role.

2013

Lewis will battle Montario Hardesty for backup slotting behind clear-cut starter Trent Richardson.

2012

Lewis was given just 23 carries as a rookie last year, with 12 of them coming in Week 17 when the team rested LeSean McCoy. The former fifth-round pick is unknown, but the Eagles view him as McCoy’s backup, so while he may not be a workhorse if McCoy goes down, he’d be the favorite to lead an explosive offense in touches. Lewis offers insurance for McCoy owners and upside for those who take a flier on him regardless.

2011

Competing for third running back role.
