After setting career highs in sacks in both of his first two years in Jacksonville, Jackson had his fewest in the category (3.5) last season since putting up three in 2014. Subsequently, the Jaguars cut the 29-year-old in the offseason to save cap space, leading the Eagles to ink him to a three-year, $30 million deal. Jackson now will form one of the top interior-line combos with Fletcher Cox while also benefiting from playing in coordinator Jim Schwartz's scheme, which has produced several studs at the position over the years.
The veteran defensive lineman has set a career high in sacks in each of his first two seasons with Jacksonville after spending the first four years of his career in Denver. Jackson is the second-highest paid player on the Jaguars behind defensive end Calais Campbell and is one of the anchors of the team's stellar defense, which finished top two in scoring, yards allowed, takeaways and sacks in 2017. The 28-year-old primarily serving as a defensive tackle somewhat limits his counting stats (40 tackles and eight sacks in 2017), but his on-field impact is clear, regardless of his potential fantasy value.
In his second year with the Jaguars, Jackson will once again start at one defensive tackle after notching 33 combined tackles and 6.5 sacks last season.
Jacksonville pried the 26-year-old away from the reigning Super Bowl champs with a lucrative contract, and Jackson will immediately step in as Gus Bradley's starting three-technique tackle. Questions remain about how effective Jackson, who recorded five sacks last season, will be without Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware joining him on the line, but with Sen'Derrick Marks and 2015 first-round pick Dante Fowler returning from injury, the Jaguars will have a formidable group of their own.
Jackson is expected to start at defensive end this season after picking up just three sacks last year (he had six the season prior). His main role is to take up as much space as possible, as the Broncos rely on Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware to provide most of their pass rush.
Jackson had 42 tackles and six sacks in 16 games last season, seeing a big increase in snaps after Derek Wolfe experienced seizure-like symptoms in November. Wolfe has returned to health, but if he has any sort of lapse this year, Jackson will jump into the starting lineup to play on the opposite side of DeMarcus Ware.
