Alfonzo Dennard: Past News Updates ( ▲ View most recent update )
Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)New England can save approximately $1.5 million against the 2015 cap by releasing Dennard, who started 20 games in his first three seasons after being selected in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He's never been much of an IDP commodity, failing to reach 40 tackles each year. New England's cornerback group has taken a step back from 2014, but the team does have quite a few options to compete for significant roles.
RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Alfonzo Dennard.
Dennard -- who recorded 40 tackles and a pick in 13 contests last season -- is a candidate to start opposite Darrelle Revis to start the 2014 campaign until Brandon Browner returns from his four-game suspension. Beyond that, he'll be a member of the team's cornerback rotation, which also includes the likes of Kyle Arrington and Logan Ryan.
The 2012 seventh-rounder recorded 35 tackles and three picks in 10 games last season and was the frontrunner to start at right cornerback for the Patriots this season before a July 11 arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. While the team is unlikely to release Dennard, a potential NFL-mandated suspension looms.
Dennard was a potential draft day steal, taken in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft, 224th overall. The drop occured after his character came into question after an arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer. If Dennard can avoid off-field issues, the Patriots could have gotten themselves a serviceable press corner at a big discount.
