Marvin Jones: Past News Updates   ( ▲ View most recent update )

Jones (ankle) has been given the green light to do a full workout program to start preparing for official offseason workouts and minicamp.

Jones (ankle) was placed on the Bengals' injured reserve list Tuesday, ruling him out for this season, ESPN reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Jones' 2014 season comes to a close with zero games played after a broken foot during training camp was compounded by an ankle injury upon his return to practice this month. The third-year wideout's ankle problem reportedly dates back to February and caused Jones to visit a foot specialist Tuesday in North Carolina. Following 51 receptions for 712 yards and 10 touchdowns in a breakout year last season, Jones will now be forced to prepare for a comeback year in 2015. As a result, emerging receiver Mohamed Sanu should continue to enjoy an expanded role in the Bengals' offense, particularly while A.J. Green (toe) remains sidelined.
Coach Marvin Lewis relayed Monday that he isn't seeing any progress with Jones (ankle), Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

The same report refers to A.J. Green (toe) as day-to-day, but at this stage, it appears that of the two, Jones is further away from a return to action.
At this stage, there's no clear timetable for Jones' return, with the Bengals' official site suggesting that surgery could end up being considered for the wideout, who has yet to play this season due to foot and ankle issues.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

Such an outcome is speculative, but what is clear is that Jones is iffy, at best, for Week 7's contest against the Colts, a game in which the Bengals are slated to be without top wideout A.J. Green (toe).
Jones (ankle) has been officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.

Exclusive Fantasy Analysis (FREE PREVIEW)

With the availability of A.J. Green (toe) already in doubt, the confirmed absence of Jones ensures extra targets available for Mohamed Sanu. Additionally, the Bengals will almost certainly find extra snaps for Brandon Tate and Dane Sanzenbacher.
Though Jones (ankle) didn't practice this week, he is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, the Bengals' official site reports.

2015

2014

Jones had a mini-breakout in Year 2 – at least as much of one as he could opposite target-hog A.J. Green. Jones averaged 14.0 YPC and 8.9 YPT last year, while scoring 10 times despite only 13 red-zone looks. At 6-2, 195, Jones is on the small end for a red-zone threat, but he has good speed (4.46 40), is a fluid runner and has good hands. The Bengals threw the ball quite a bit last year, and there’s a chance Jones’ role could grow after a strong showing down the stretch and in the playoff loss to the Chargers. Just keep in mind there are a lot of mouths to feed in this offense and that an August foot injury is in line to delay the start of his 2014 campaign.

2013

Jones caught just 18 balls (on 32 targets) for 201 yards and one touchdown last season. However, his conclusion to the 2012 campaign (at least four targets in each of the last five games, including the playoffs) makes him an interesting prospect entering his second season in 2013.

2012

Jones has the chance to make an impact during his first NFL season due to the uncertainty surrounding the Bengals' number two wide receiver position. Additionally, Jones has potential in the return game, so he is worth keeping an eye on.
