The Lions released Washington on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Washington suited up for 30 games over the last two seasons between Chicago and Detroit, making 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks and four pass breakups. The Lions brought in defensive tackles Sylvester Williams and Ricky Jean Francois via free agency, so Washington's depth role wasn't necessary anymore. He'll have less than three weeks to make another team before Week 1.

2013
Washington is entering his third training camp with the Bears, but he’s still a complete wild card. Since being drafted in the sixth round of 2013, Washington has only appeared in 15 career games, registering 10 tackles and one sack. The 25-year-old brings enough athleticism to the table to fit in at the professional level, but it’s uncertain how well he’ll take to the transition from the 4-3 scheme to the new 3-4 setup in place under coordinator Vic Fangio. He’ll have to produce a solid training camp in order to claim a reserve role at defensive end.
A sixth-round pick by the Bears last season, Washington appeared in just two games as a rookie. With the Bears overhauling their defensive line in the offseason and bringing in several high-priced players and high draft picks, Washington may need to shine in training camp in order to claim a 53-man roster spot.
A sixth-round selection out of Georgia, Washington will offer depth at outside linebacker but could require an impressive training camp to solidify a roster spot.
