ANALYSIS
Although Wright hasn't appeared in a game in two seasons, the former college wideout was a modestly effective receiver during his first three years in the league, when he caught a total of 13 touchdowns in 41 games for the Buccaneers, Patriots and Lions. However, he'll face heavy competition for a roster spot in Kansas City, as Demetrius Harris, Orson Charles and Jace Amaro will all jostle with him for slotting on the depth chart under the established Travis Kelce.

Long gone are Wright's glory days in Tampa Bay and New England. The last time he played a regular-season snap occurred in 2015 with the Lions, signing another deal with Detroit last July before being released a month later. He will make another attempt at a 53-man roster spot this offseason, but likely faces another uphill battle in Kansas City.
Wright had torn his ACL during the Lions’ offseason program. Thus, his 2016 campaign was over before it started and leaves him to take aim at a return in 2017.
Traded from Tampa Bay to Detroit on Aug. 31, Wright will likely see more targets than the average No. 3 tight end. With Eric Ebron penciled in as the starter and Brandon Pettigrew likely to make his money as a blocker, look for Wright to be moved around the formation to create mismatches, perhaps seeing time as an over-sized slot receiver. In his first two seasons in the league, Wright has made a name for himself as a red-zone threat, hauling in 11 of his 80 career receptions for touchdowns.
An undrafted rookie last season, Wright converted from wide receiver to tight end and became the Bucs' starter at TE by Week 5. From that point, prorated over a full season, his numbers equal 70 receptions for 681 yards and six touchdowns. He caught 72 percent of his targets, fourth among qualified tight ends, despite playing with a rookie quarterback and the league's poorest passing attack, both of which also partially account for his few lackluster games. At 6-4, 220, with 4.65 speed, Wright is a tough receiving matchup. After being dealt to New England, Wright now provides the Patriots with a legitimate pass-catching option to combine with Rob Gronkowski, who the team still hopes will be ready for Week 1. In any case, the addition of Wright opens the door for the team to run more two-tight end sets (when Gronkowski is healthy) and in such a scenario, Wright could carve out some fantasy utility in PPR formats. Moreover, those looking to insure their investments in Gronkowski now have another option to consider for their early-season lineups.
Signed by the Buccaneers in September of 2013.
