RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Dezmen Southward.
Southward will compete for snaps in a crowded and young secondary in 2015. The former safety has been moved to cornerback, and he currently sits behind Desmond Trufant, Robert Alford, Jalen Collins and Akeem King on the depth chart. He'll have a tough time seeing significant snaps unless he has a great training camp and preseason.
Southward will compete with Dwight Lowery for the starting free safety role. As a third round pick, it wouldn't be surprising if the Falcons went with the veteran to start the year, but Southward would be in line for a big statistical season if he could earn the job out of the gate. Assuming the starter anchored the role for the entire season, a 60-80 tackle season with a few interceptions would be par for the course.
