Spear was waived by the Browns on Tuesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Barring a late signing, it appears the Browns will go with Travis Coons to handle the kicking duties this season. Spear helped his cause in the job battle by hitting all of his field-goal and extra-point attempts in the first three exhibitions, but coach Mike Pettine said he opted to keep Coons due to his "slightly better" leg.

2015 Fantasy Outlook
Spear will compete with Travis Coons to fill the vacancy left by Billy Cundiff, who was let go with an injury settlement. Coons appeared to win the starting job in Tennessee last season before Ryan Succop took the role late in the preseason. Spear, meanwhile, was cut by the Eagles in training camp last year. The Browns’ offense struggled significantly last season, and while Cleveland added quarterback Josh McCown and wideouts Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline in free agency, it's still not likely to put up big points. If the Browns struggle to move the ball, their kicker could get a decent number of field-goal opportunities, but he's unlikely to score enough points to be interesting in fantasy leagues.
