Swoope, who played college basketball for the University of Miami, signed a contract with the Colts as an undrafted free agent. "Erik Swoope is another example of our scouting department digging out capable and intriguing athletes with enough overall traits to make this difficult transition," Colts GM Ryan Grigson told the team's official web site.

At 6-5, 220, the Colts are hoping they can have the same success of turning a top college basketball player into a tight end along the lines of Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates. Swoope didn't play football in college and hasn't played organized football at any level. He's a long shot to make the roster, and the best-case scenario is likely that he sticks on the practice squad and can develop into a viable football player in 2015.
