Closer Watch

HOU - It looks like Brandon Lyon will return to the bullpen later this week after spending nearly a month on the disabled list. The question becomes does he quickly replace Mark Melancon as the team's closer? And then: Will the Astros give Melancon the opportunity to pry back the role should Lyon struggle? Melancon picked up five saves, two wins, a hold and 17 strikeouts in his 15.2 innings as closer.

KC - Aaron Crow has yet to see a save chance since taking the reins from Joakim Soria last week, but Soria might reclaim the role sooner rather than later. Soria has pitched three scoreless (strikeout-less) innings since his demotion, and manager Ned Yost said the job might be his again after a few more solid outings.

Recommended Pickup

Dee Gordon, SS, LA - The Dodgers recalled Devaris (Dee) Gordon as part of a half-dozen transactions Monday, and while he wasn't in Monday's lineup, he should immediately be a factor in the Dodgers' starting shortstop picture with Rafael Furcal (shoulder) back on the disabled list. Gordon's footspeed earned him a place on many pre-season top-100 prospect lists, and that should continue to be an asset in the major leagues. He had already racked up 22 steals (to just three caught stealings) through 50 games at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he was also OBP-ing .361. Gordon could be a speedy remedy for owners who are now without guys like Furcal, Hanley Ramirez (DL) or Jimmy Rollins (day-to-day).

Other recent recommendations:Freddie Freeman, Adam Kennedy, Brian Matusz, Ben Revere, Jon Jay, Chris Iannetta.
