Adams has dealt with a hip injury over the past two seasons, but he called it a season in early March last season, so hopefully he'll be 100% by the time this season starts. He'll have 16 starts to make just under $500k to secure his card for the remainder of the season. Adams was a $1 million guy when he was healthy, so the goal here would be to see at least a 500% increase in earnings this season.
The story of Blake Adams' season is one of trial and error, and trial and error. Adams teed it up 32 times last season, and although he failed quite a bit, he managed to make the weekend 21 times. And on the weekend, he played pretty well. While he had few high-end finishes, he earned nine top-25s. Adams is likely to play almost every week again this season, so if he can turn some of those top-25s into top-10s, he'll prove to be a bargain. The risk is low with Adams and the upside is relatively high, which makes him a solid choice for salary cap leagues. In draft leagues, Adams should go in the seventh round.
The first couple months of the 2011 season were absolutely brutal for Adams. He missed the cut in four of his first six events, and it looked like it could be one of those years. He managed to make a bunch of cuts after that, but weekend success proved elusive. It wasn't until late June that Adams found his game. A Top-10 at The Travelers was followed by another Top-10 at the Viking Classic and that was followed by a tie for third at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Even though he wasn't battling strong fields at those events, he still showed a lot of fight. There isn't enough of a track record to invest too muchy in Adams this season, though.
Fresh off a third-place finish on the Nationwide Tour money list in 2009, Adams hit the PGA TOUR in 2010 and produced a solid rookie season. He only carded two top-10s, but he managed five top-25s and, most important, did enough to earn his 2011 card. Adams performed well off the tee last season, ranking in the top 70 on the PGA TOUR in both accuracy and distance. It's a strange combination that you don't see very often as most players are either long or accurate, but not both. Adams also finished in the top 70 in putting last season. The curious thing is his GIR percentage, which is not very strong. You would think that someone who was long and accurate off the tee would hit a good percentage of greens, but that wasn't the case for Adams last season.
