Finishes T16 at John Deere Classic
August 15, 2016
Carballo shot a two-under 69 in the final round of the John Deere Classic to finish in a tie for 16th place.
ANALYSIS
Carballo carded four birdies to two bogeys on Sunday to post his 69. The finish was only his second top-25 finish in 17 starts this season. His short game was superb this week ranking fourth in strokes gained tee-to-green. Also solid ball striking and putting helped him finish in a tie for 16th. He will look to build on this finish at the Wyndham Championship.

Carballo struggled on the PGA Tour this year in 18 starts, finishing 187th in FedEx Cup Points. Yet he went to the Web.com Tour Finals and got his card back by virtue of a second-place finish at the Boise Open. If he can fix a balky putter that lost him -.447 strokes per round, which would have ranked him 175th with the requisite number of rounds, Carballo can contend on the PGA Tour.
Carballo is a hit-or-miss player who missed the cut seven times in 18 events last season. He played well on the weekend as evidence by win in May and runner-up in July.
It only took 20 years, but we've finally got another Miguel Angel on the PGA Tour. If this Miguel Angel can accomplish a fraction of what his predecessor has, then this season will be a success. Carballo had a slow start to his Nationwide season last year, but a strong finish that included a win and a runner-up finish was enough to vault him into the Top 10 on the money list. After a strong finish to the 2011 season, there's a chance that Carballo starts the season well this year, though sustained success is unlikely.
